A Little About Us

Bluegrass Arabians is situated on the tranquil 45 acre property at Healesville, in the heart of the picturesque Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia.

It is run by the family team - Paul and Norma Walker and their daughter, Tracey Fry.   Paul and Norma established the stud in 1973, when Tracey was just 3.

.

They began with the Purebred stallion,

Desert Ed-len {Dorian Grey x Electrimel}, and the Purebred mares - Fidelia {Shafreyn imp.UK  x Falusuf}, Falene {Greylight imp.UK  x  Falusuf} and

Romilda {Sindh imp.UK  x  Raki}.

In 1978, the fairytale, half Egyptian colt -

TRISTRAM APPARITION {Hansan imp.USA  x Abelya}

joined the stud, as did the bay purebred filly

NIHAL PHILLIPA  {Arim x Bint Kyrie}, in 1980.

.

In 1988, the exotic bay stallion

MASH {Simeon Sanegor exp.USA  x  Dynasty Jamin} came to Bluegrass, then followed the exceptional sire

DANTEFFA  {BPL Dante imp.USA  x  Serrefa} in 1989.

.

The imported straight Egyptian colt,

BORN IN THE USA imp.USA {Prince Ibn Shaikh x Morsada}

became part of  the family in 1992.

2000, saw the arrival of the lovely chestnut stallion

D'AMORS SAABI-KHAN

{SK Shakla Khan imp.USA  x  Amira El Saghira FA}.

And the most recent addition, in September 2006, is the gorgeous chestnut stallion

AMADEUS {Eastwinds Axplosion x Joda Gemal}.

"The success of our breeding program, by careful blending of Egyptian, English, Polish and Spanish bloodlines, has enabled us to breed an Arabian that is not only typey, but is a good saddle horse, whether being used for competition or for pleasure".

The Walker family's lives totally revolve around horses. Paul, for over 40 years, has been, and continues to be, a very successful farrier. Norma has trained and shown clients horses, to some of the top awards at Australia's major shows. In 1989, after 7 years of training, preparing, showing and giving lessons, Norma decided to stop and concentrate on the horses bred by Bluegrass Arabians. Tracey has a rather large collection of beautiful photographs she has taken. Many of them you will see right here in our website.

And in addition to all this, the family had a time when making angle load floats, under the name

Angle Haul Horse Floats.

Paul, Norma and Tracey have bred and / or owned:

7 Australian National Champions

3 Australian Reserve National Champions

4 East Coast Championships - Champions

3 East Coast Championships - Reserve Champions
14 Arabian Classic Supremes

19 Arabian Classic Champions

"We have shown our Arabians at most of Australia's major shows and have been judged by some of the best International judges in the world, with success that any breeder would be proud of !

Our philosophy is always to keep and open mind, to work hard for what you believe in and to enjoy to the fullest what you are doing"

After a health scare in 2009, Paul and Norma decided to retire from breeding horses and to do some other things in life.

They had over the years bred beef cattle, but the decision to purchase some Purebred Shorthorn cattle was made.

Currently Paul and Norma have a small group of purebred shorthorn females that they are crossing to purebred Angus and Purebred charolais bulls.
